Coach Darryll Whaley
Darryll Whaley joined Berean Christian High School in 2010 as a football and lacrosse coach, coinciding with his first of two sons entering the 9th grade. With a background in youth and high school football, he served as Berean’s junior varsity and varsity special teams coach for eight seasons.
Having wrestled as a youth, in high school, and later as a member of the All-Army Wrestling Team while serving in the U.S. Army from 1986 to 1989, Coach Whaley was inspired to establish a wrestling program at Berean. In the fall of 2012, he successfully launched the school’s first all-male wrestling team.
Under his leadership, the program has grown steadily, producing multiple tournament podium finishes, North Coast Section champions, and even a trip to the state championships. Now entering its 14th season, Berean’s wrestling program continues to thrive, with the future looking bright for this growing sport. In 2025, Berean will also debut its first all-female wrestling team, competing in DAL League duals—a milestone that reflects both the program’s ongoing growth and the rising popularity of women’s wrestling among young athletes.
